I photographed Rafay and Mikhail in the Hamptons a few weekends ago. They just turned two. And the funniest thing happened because Aima (mommy) asked the boys, "Who likes to play the guitar?" Rafa shouts out "Mr. Khan!!!" And out walks Mikhail (aka Mr. Khan) strumming on his toy guitar. So Mr. Khan plays the guitar, mommy sings, and Rafa sings along. They like to sing Old MacDonald has a Farm, In the Jungle, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes... The usual kid songs. It's the cutest thing I have ever seen. And then we went to the beach, and we played in the sand and walked in the ocean.

I adore their little personalities. It's amazing and incredible for me to document them every year and to see how far they have come in just two years: click here for a shoot when they were only a few months old.

P.S. How adorable is it that a 2 year old decides that his name is NOT Mikhail, but Mr. Khan? I love this kid. He's going to be a rockstar.

As promised, here is the OUTRAGEOUSLY AWESOME TOTALLY FANTASTIC styled shoot with Hunter and Paul. You may remember them from their engagement shoot that I photographed two years ago. Hunter is THE Hunter of Hunter Dixon. I wanted to do a shoot where the fashion designer was actually wearing her own clothes, instead of models wearing the clothes. Something different.

Styled shoots are a lot of fun for me. I love putting together a team of incredibly talented people and letting everyone run wild with ideas. I totally believe it having a vision and goal, but then letting each artist on the team come up with their unique ideas and specialities. That's when you see everyone's talents at their best. True artists are incredible to work with. I am fascinated, and I learn so much.

Cheers to these incredible artists and friends! I can't wait to work with you all again.

Accessories (necklaces, bracelets, and rings): Jane Pope Jewelry & DANNIJO

Awesome news today! I am published in the Argentinian magazine: D MAG. I am addicted to looking at this online magazine. All of the images that they produce are striking.

I photographed this shoot a few months ago with the help of these incredibly talented people:

Photography: LINDSEYBELLE
Clothes: Hunter Dixon
Headpieces: Leah C. Millinery
Accessories (necklaces, bracelets, and rings): Jane Pope Jewelry & DANNIJO

Tomorrow on the blog, I will be posting more from this outrageously awesome session with Hunter and Paul!

p.s. How awesome is D MAG? When you go to their site, all of the articles are images on the screen that change up every time you refresh the page? Very cool.

Bonnie and Benjamin were the very first people I ever photographed years ago. You should have seen me. Poses sketched. Locations mapped. Outfits planned. I was nervous. They trusted me. I was working in finance, but my real love was photography. I am forever grateful for that first session and for their enthusiasm through the years.

Ben and Bon have seen my evolution, and I have seen theirs. I have been able to capture their love story. This is the greatest gift I can ever give people; the gift of memories. And now with baby on the way in less than a month, I am super excited to share their love in this amazing time. I photographed this session out in the Hamptons with the beautiful evening light. Aren't they gorgeous?

p.s. That second shot with the sun shining through is pure magic to me!
p.p.s. I will have to do a separate post on the evolution of our shoots. But click here for a fun one we did about two years ago!

The question: "Lindsey, how do I avoid the appearance of a shiny face and sweating bullets in summer photographs?! Help!"
The answer: Awesome cosmetics (makeup is an incredible tool)
The information source: Cosmetic industry rockers

I get a lot of questions from clients about the best way to "stay cool" when shooting in the summer. Yes, it's hot and humid, but summertime in NY is an amazing time for photographs with beautiful light. And, when couples get married/engaged or families want summer family portraits, they want to look great outside in the sun (for my signature sunflare shots!).

During many of my shoots, I work with unbelievable makeup artists, but often they don't come along for the entire shoot. So, I set out today to find out from some of the industry's best how to do quick touchups. I mean, I get shiny too (note: I am crazy, and I bounce, jump, bend, and run throughout the entire shoot), and it doesn't hurt to know how to fix a little shine!

I called my friend Erik Kaiser, CEO of GLAMCOR, a hyper innovative cosmetics company that is revolutionizing the makeup industry with their incredible products designed for professionals. He was going to visit Donna Artz, an expert markeup artist with a passionate cult following on YouTube, to introduce her to the super secret product that GLAMCOR is launching this weekend at IMATS in Pasadena. This was another chance to be at the cutting edge, and I wanted to learn from the best about preventing shiny faces!

I couldn't believe my eyes when Donna spent two minutes touching up my face. I was wearing a little bit of makeup already, but she applied a few products with expert brushes... and BAM! Huge difference. Stay tuned for some footage of this awesome day (along with the products that I will be carrying to share with clients) that is coming in the next few weeks. For now, enjoy these shots of the three of us learning from each other!

What are your favorite shine-reducing products? Leave a comment below.

I'm definitely excited for GLAMCOR's cosmetics launch! I've been loving their lights and I think they'll be a great brand to follow in the future!

As far as shine-control, I really enjoy Urban Decay's De-Slick In A Tube underneath foundation to control high shine areas. After that, I lean toward MAC's Blot Powder Pressed to control shine that might leak through.

Leah and I love to dress up in hats and go out. We have so much fun. You can't even imagine some of the comments we get when we wear Leah's beautiful creations on our heads. It's fun to be a little crazy! Makes life more fun. And we like to document our fun in photo booths! We could spend the entire day acting wild in those things!

What's better than amazing hats, cute dresses, hot pink and purple lipstick (although you can't see our crazy lipstick here in b/w, trust us!), sunglasses, and good friends? Tell me what you think is better... I would love to hear from you!

I thought it would be fun to photograph and interview entrepreneurs and people that inspire me. So I photographed Danielle and Jodie of the incredibly fashionable jewelry line DANNIJO. They are superstars. And super close sisters. They started out in NY working at other fashion companies, but eventually came together to create punk rock/indie hipster/classic/whimsical jewelry statement pieces. I am so in love with their art (in the rotating banner above, you can see me wearing their necklace)!

LINDSEYBELLE: If you met yourself at a party, what would you think of yourself?
DANIELLE: This is a hard one... Approachable. Funny. That I like to have a good time. Sortof low key.
JODIE: That I am more reserved than I really am. It takes me a second to warm up.

L: Speaking of parties, what's better than a DANNIJO arm party
D: Nothing [laughs]
J: A Dannijo arm party on vacation!
D: Haha! Yes, perfect!

L: What scares you?
D: Rodents.
J: Flying. And sometimes change. Change is scary, but makes you a better person. It is important to push yourself.

L: Where do you get your inspiration?
D: Lots of different places. Jodie and I have different styles. I am more bohemian rock and roll and Jodie is more classic. So it's fun to combine our two styles. Actually our parents were art collectors and our dad collects watches, so we were always fascinated with art and accessories growing up. We take a lot of inspiration from different cultures, photographs, old movies, and music. We don't follow trending reports. We make pieces that we would want to wear. And we go with it.
L: Your dad is a doctor and I read that you found your dad's medical tool kit when you were teenagers and you learned how to do wire work. Thus the start of your jewelry making skills! Very cool.

L: I know you were fearless when you first talked to Bergdorfs. You didn't take "no, not right now" for an answer. You kept pushing and got in the door. If you could give one piece of advice for people starting their own business, what would it be?
DJ: Don't live in fear. Surround yourself with loyal friends and family. You need a support group to keep you motivated. Danielle and I are lucky to have each other.

L: You two are part of the Summit Series conference. Why do you think it is so important to attend conventions and conferences in industries other than your own?
DJ: If you only stay in your industry and meet people who do the same thing as you, you never get new ideas. The best entrepreneurs can take broad ideas (whether it is in tech or elsewhere) and apply it to their own business. It's fun to meet people in other industries too.

L: Danni, we are wearing the same nail polish today! Ha! What are your favorite nail polish colors?
J: For everyday, I love one coat of Ballet Slippers and one coat of Mademoiselle. For red, I love Lollipop.
D: In love with Lapis of Luxury today! But my favorite go-to polishes are Potato Fields and Mademoiselle. All Essie of course!

L: I love to laugh. What makes you laugh like crazy?
J: Danni and Leandra Medine
D: Kristen Wiig. Anything by Kristen Wiig. Have you seen The Surprise Party skit on SNL?
L: No, I am going to watch it right after this. (fyi: WATCH IT NOW.)
D: It is the funniest thing ever. Oh yeah and Eddie Berrang makes me laugh.

L: What's something that no one knows about you?
D: That I used to be a pole vaulter.
J: That I am a huge sports fan. Football is my favorite.

L: Who do you admire most and why?
D: My parents. They have been married for 30 years and are madly in love still. They are so selfless. They are the best parents ever, and I am inspired by everything that they do.
J: My parents and Natalie Morales. I love that she balances her career, her marriage and her 2 kids. She is amazing and intelligent. Oh and Ralph Lauren. And Steve Jobs.
D: And of course Kristen Wiig.

L: What song makes you want to whip your hair back and forth?
D: Right now, I am loving Young Blood Chiddy Bang Remix. And of course Michael Jackson.
J: In for the Kill, by La Roux. And Kiss by Prince. That's a classic.

L: What is a classic DANNIJO piece that every girl should have in their jewelry drawer?
DJ: Jacinda ring for sure. And the Kalbarri bib necklace.

L: And what from your current collection is a must have?
DJ: The Knox necklace. And the Kale necklace.

Thanks ladies! Now off to our shoot. Note: remember that 98 degree weather that we had in NYC? Well, we photographed these that day!

Danielle is wearing: Tan shoes by miu miu, cut-off white shorts and black tank, Neha bag, Persol shades, JJ hat
Jodie is wearing: Denim shoes by Prada, Anthropologie shirt and Gryphon skirt.
Jodie's jewels: Zuma cuff, Sloane cuff, Hermosa cuff, Tevi bangle, Jacinda ring (all DANNIJO)
